Whatcha Know Bout Me? Q&A Session

I have been chatting with some new readers lately, on Twitter and via email, and it seems that I am somehow important enough for people to want to know a little more about my personal life. Maybe people think I’ll be interesting. Or maybe they’re just nosy. Either way, I love talking about myself once in a while so I figured I’d make a post. Why not?

Writing about myself in such a personal way is breaking some “rules” here so don’t copy me unless you really don’t care about rules. :) I know that everyone says to stay on topic, but that is hard! And I’ve been asked the same questions a few times, so what better way to answer them than with a post?

I was born in 1985. I have a little brother (well, he’s 6’8″ so not so little), and an older half brother. My mom was Air Force, my dad was Army, but they got out before I was born. I was born in Texas but grew up in Missouri mostly. My mom raised me. My dad passed away in 2001.

That's me! Circa 1988.

I live in St. Louis with my partner, Rachel, and our three girls. Jenelle is 10, Gracelynn will be 7 next week (we are going to Chicago! YIPPEE!), and Sapphire is 5. If you’re doing the math, I was 16 when I had my oldest. It wasn’t easy, but we obviously survived it. I’ve been married, divorced, and even homeless. My life experiences have made me who I am today and I wouldn’t trade them for anything.

I enjoy writing about controversial topics but it seems that I always end up back in the “teaching” area. I love helping people make money from home, but I also – for some reason – love pissing people off. Those usually don’t go hand in hand, so right now I’m just doing the helping/teaching thing. I hope to one day own a blog, radio show, or some type of outlet where I can just offend anyone and everyone and get away it. It’d be even better if I made money at it!

I was born an entrepreneur. My mom owned a quilt shop while I was growing up, so it’s just something I’ve always watched. I am the former owner of Nellie Bug’s (an online boutique). I used to own Randomosity (my first truly successful blog), but sold it at the end of 2011. I currently own Love/Hate Fitness, my personal workout/diet/fitness blog, and EverythingSTL, a local blog.

I was a surrogate for a woman in New York (long story), and because of that I am very passionate about adoption issues (not in the way you might think).

I have a cute the most adorable puppy in the whole wide universe. Her name is Isis and she is a blue-nosed pit bull.

I really enjoy listening to music, and can never settle on a type that I like the best. I like old rock n roll, plus the new stuff, with a bit of country thrown in the mix. I love Godsmack, The Beatles, AC/DC, Eminem, Miranda Lambert and tons more! I used to listen to contemporary music, but that was back when I was still a christian. I used to be a Sunday School teacher. Lots of things have changed in the past few years. I now lean more towards Buddhist principles (not vaccinating, being a vegetarian, etc) but have not decided on one religion just yet.

I am passionate about equal rights, as well as animal rights (but I don’t like PETA). I don’t vote Democrat or Republican, and I am not a fan of government involvement. I’m as “green” as possible, and a hippie at heart (the kind that showers!). I am pro-choice and I believe in doctor assisted euthanasia. I think if you want something you should have to work hard for it, it shouldn’t just be handed to you because someone else had it too.

Here are some questions asked by readers and friends:

Droid or iPhone? I prefer the Droid OS but I own an iPhone. I use my Droid Tablet a lot though.

Morning or night person? I prefer to wake up early, take a nap, and stay up late. So both?

Twitter or Facebook? Twitter, now that Facebook is requiring timeline mode for fan pages. BOO!

Who are your favorite bloggers? My favorite resource blogs.

Which posts are your favorite (that you’ve written)? I truly enjoyed writing Screw You, Facebook! just because it’s a bit controversial and that’s the type of post I gravitate towards. My media kit post was fun to write, and my Klout post was fun because it was so informative. I know I was clueless when I first joined Klout so it was a post that I had wanted to write for a while.

Which posts are your favorite (that someone else has written)? Pro Writing Tips for Bloggers, How to Start a Blog or Website, and many more.

Name 5 sites you visit daily (besides FB, Twitter, etc): Cafemom, Simple Dog Training, ThriftyNinja, Fajitas & Ping Pong Balls, Digital Photography School

What do you do in your free time? Free time, what’s that?! Actually, I love taking photography courses with Brian at STL Photo Art when I get the chance. He’s helped me a ton when it comes to learning how to take great photos. I am in love with my Canon DSLR and what it does for my landscape photography! My new zoom lens is my BFF, especially when I visit the zoo. The elephants are my favorite.

If you have any questions feel free to ask them and I’ll answer in the comments! I’d love to get to know you better so if you make a post like this, leave me the link.

  3. Haha. I think I secretly like to piss people off too. I just like to talk about REAL things that people usually have strong opinions on and it can lead to “intense discussions”. I do enjoy hearing the other side of things though, even if my opinions aren’t swayed. I also believe that government should butt of peoples lives. I think you just encouraged me to get a little more personal and share more of who I am on my own blog. Thanks

Becky, that’s how I am. I love hearing everyone’s opinions (even if they’re wrong – ha!). I am glad that I encouraged you to get more personal, can’t wait to read some interesting stuff about ya!

  4. In some ways you have not had an easy life. I agree with you about PETA…when my Hubby got his wonderful Lab Reggie [he is deceased now...old age] as a Parkinson’s Assistance Dog…we were warned about PETA wanting to kill him and put him out of his misery! Reg was never in Misery!! What a love and a blessing. I’ve know of people who have lost their animals to PETA…UGH!

Maureen, I think if we have easy lives we aren’t able to appreciate them as much. Ya know? And yes PETA is absolutely ridiculous! I’m headed over to read your latest post, it looks interesting!

  5. Jacqui Odell says:

Do you get as much “poop” as I do for owning a pit bull?

    • Sadie says:

We have only had her for about a month now but have definitely dealt with our fair share of ignorance. I can’t say I’m surprised, really, because people are just stupid.

  6. Sadie,

Your face looks the same as it did in 1988. Even if you hadn’t said that was you…we could have guessed it.

And your puppy is so cute. I love the picture where she’s taking her hat off.

  12. I love this, it was interesting to read to read about you. My first reaction, was wow, she’s a baby (I didn’t know you were that young) to have been so much from the bits and pieces I have read about your life from other posts. I give you credit to put yourself out there so openly. I am very much the opposite.

Thanks! :) I think it’s a double-edged sword either way you go, but sometimes it’s hard to put yourself out there. I think I go a BIT overboard sometimes.. lol.
